Who Do You Think We Were?
The Black History Month 2021 celebrations official open at Hythe Town Hall in an exhibition featuring work by Aida Silvestri and Admire Ncube alongside images of black Britons from the Victorian era. From Thursday 7th October to Sunday 31st October 2021.
Images of Black Britons of the Victorian era will be contrasted with photographs of present-day residents of Folkestone and Hythe. The exhibition will incorporate works by Aida Silvestri, Admire Ncube, and feature Autograph’s archive pop-up Exhibition in a Box ‘The Missing Chapter: Black Chronicles. Silvestri’s stirring photographs of local people will complement Ncube’s sculpture pieces reimagining black Tudors and Autograph’s remarkable portraits reproduced from rare 19th-century photographs portraying people of African, Caribbean and South Asian descent during the Victorian era in Britain.
